Nocturne - Lili Boulanger (1893-1918)

An invalid from childhood, her brilliant career as a composer was tragically cut short when she died at the age of only 24.

This is one of the pieces I plan to do for my grade 6 violin. I think it's the hardest piece I have done, maybe because it had so much emotion and expression. I need a lesson really.

It's such a haunting piece, that when I read about her I wasn't suprised that she didn't have a 'normal' childhood. But at least she could turn it into something beautiful. And even though she died young her music is still very much alive. That's why i'm trying so hard to get it right; I want to do it justice.
